Dear Stephen G Mapes,
We’d love for you to join Hilton HHonors Dining. Would 1,000 Hilton HHonors bonus points whet your appetite?
It's easy to earn your 1,000 HHonors bonus points! Just join Hilton HHonors Dining during the New Member Welcome Bonus (via the 'Join Now' link), and spend a total of $25 at participating restaurants, bars and clubs over the next 45 days.
Your 1,000 HHonors bonus points will be in addition to the 5 bonus points you’ll get for every dollar you spend at participating locations as a member of Hilton HHonors Dining! Your earnings are based on the entire bill – tax and tip included. Plus, membership is free!
Points well taken.
Unfortunately for Stephen G Mapes, I am not him and Hilton HHonors shared some of his account information with me.
Thanks, Hilton HHonors.
Update: Several others have commented that they received the same Hilton HHonors offer with same guy's account info. So maybe my info hasn't been shared.
Update: Hilton has sent a follow-up message (excerpt below) that apologizes and assures me that my own information was not sent to others. The emphasis in the message below is theirs, not mine.
You were recently sent an email regarding the Hilton HHonors Dining program. The email you received contained someone else’s name and basic account information. Please be assured that your information was not sent to others.
The link to the Hilton HHonors Dining new member bonus was a valid link and the offer to earn 1,000 HHonors bonus points by joining the program and by spending a total of $25 at participating locations over the next 45 days is still valid.
It was the inclusion of another person's information that was incorrect.
We apologize for this inconvenience and look forward to seeing you soon.
Best Regards,
Hilton HHonors

I got the same email along with Mr. Mapes act. number ending in 492
Me too! At first I thought I got Mr Mapes's info and someone else got mine but maybe just everyone got Mr Mapes and the rest of us are safe.
I too received an email from the Hilton Awards for Mr. Mapes....poor Mr. Mapes! Here is part of what I received - I wont include his a/c nbr but will agree that it ended in 492.

me too... apparently Stephen G Mapes is the generic replacement for occupant ??
I got it too--I was concerned it was a scam as they ask for your cc# to enroll in the awards program...
Same here... Just joined so I thought HH screwed up my account. Interesting.
Guess what- Stephen G Mapes also made it accidentally to my e-mail from Hilton too.
And, as a bonus, your blog is the number one Google search result for "Stephen G Mapes" Huzzah!
I received the same email yesterday from Hilton, and the same stale canned response from Hilton this morning as well. If I was Stephen G Mapes, I would be quite pissed. I would really like to know just how many Hilton Honors members actually received the same Hilton email as well as the canned response.
I would not even have noticed the first email if they had not sent out a second one this morning.
Ditto. I sent Hilton an email back last night to ask what's up, and then got their error email this morning -- I thought they were responding only to me, but apparently it's a wider problem.
Also, when I saw Mapes name, I had already clicked on the link and signed in (several times, since Hilton's site sucks). This got me worried that it was a phishing email and that I just gave away my account/log-in info -- but the server site was secure and legit.
Anyway, without hearing exactly how this screw-up happened, how can anyone "be assured" that OUR info wasn't given away??
Also, we should try to track down "Stephen Mapes" (I see a IMDB.com entry as well as Fb and LinkedIn profiles) to see if Hilton contacted him about the breach in his account info. I bet $5 they didn't!
